Country engine

One product. Ten tax systems.

Your country drives the currency, the tax rates, the invoice wording and the fiscal year — not a translated template.

Country engine

Pick a country. Watch the rules change.

Currency, tax rates, invoice wording, tax-ID format, fiscal year, filing authority and e-invoicing deadlines are data — not code. Adding a market never breaks an existing tenant.

Engineering, not marketing

The parts your accountant will ask about.

Small-business software usually hides the ledger. Ours is the product: every invoice, payment and expense posts a balanced journal entry, and every report is a projection of those rows.

  • Integer minor units everywhere — 20% VAT on £1,234.56 is exact, every time.
  • Database triggers block deletes and edits on journal lines and the audit log.
  • Tenant isolation designed around Postgres RLS policies (shipped in docs/rls.sql).
  • Payment webhooks verified by signature and deduplicated by event id.
  • Every mutation writes who/what/when/before/after to an append-only trail.

Straight answers

Is Ledgerly recognised by HMRC for MTD?

Not yet, and we will not pretend otherwise. The tax engine produces HMRC box figures and keeps an audit trail, but submission is feature-flagged off until recognition is granted. Same for ATO BAS, CRA and SARS filing.

Can I switch country later?

Before your first posted transaction, yes — one click reconfigures currency, rates and wording. After that the country is locked, because moving jurisdiction mid-ledger is a data migration, not a settings toggle.

How do you handle money maths?

Every amount is an integer count of minor units. Tax is computed with exact big-integer arithmetic and half-up rounding per line, so totals never drift by a penny — no floating point anywhere.

What happens when I void an invoice?

Nothing is deleted. A mirror-image journal entry reverses the original, the invoice is marked void with a reason, and both entries stay in the audit trail forever.

Do you store card data?

Never. Payments run through Stripe or GoCardless hosted flows, so Ledgerly stays in PCI DSS SAQ-A scope. We do not store CVVs, PANs or bank credentials.

Send your first invoice before your coffee goes cold.

Country-correct tax, a real ledger underneath, and an accountant pack that exports cleanly.
